How Jay Shah became the most powerful man in the world of cricket at the age of 35
ICC CHAIRMAN (JAY SHAH) |
Indian Cricket Board Secretary Jay Shah has become the new Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). At 35, he is the youngest cricket administrator to reach this position.
It is also interesting that this is the first time that a person below the age of 57 has become the President or Chairman of the ICC.
When Colin Cowdrey, the first ICC chairman, became chairman in 1989, he was 57.
Since then, 11 people have become ICC presidents. When N. Srinivasan was elected as the head of the ICC in 2014, the position came to be known as the ICC 'Chairman'.
Jay Shah is the fifth Indian to reach this milestone. Before him, Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar have served as ICC presidents.
Jay Shah's rise to the ICC presidency has been linked to his father and Indian Home Minister Amit Shah.
Apart from this, experts are also giving importance to Jai Shah's assumption of the post of ICC Chairman during the current controversy regarding the organization of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
India dominates world cricket
According to experts, the reason why Jay Shah reached the post of ICC President is the dominance of the Indian Cricket Board in world cricket.
Jay Shah was the secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, the most powerful board in the world. The Indian Cricket Board not only has the largest spectator market but also has the support of several major companies and sponsors.
Apart from this, the Indian cricket team is also winning consistently, and amidst all this, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has emerged as a successful tournament. No other cricket board in the world has all this.
Cricket analyst Anand Vasu wrote in a piece for BBC Hindi that Jay Shah's career graph as an administrator in cricket has also been spectacular.
He started his career as District Cricket Administrator under Gujarat Cricket Association in the year 2009.
In the year 2013, he became the Joint Secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association and after that, he did not look back.
He did not have much experience when he joined the BCCI as secretary in 2019, but according to sources close to him, he now consults his colleagues.
