DAMASCUS: The Syrian Football Federation has announced changes to the national team's kit and logo to reflect the political changes and the country's new era.

The decision follows recent major political developments in Syria, when rebels seized the capital Damascus without resistance and President Bashar al-Assad fled to Russia at the end of a 13-year civil war.
These events have paved the way for the formation of a new political leadership and national identity in Syria.
The Syrian Football Federation described the change as "historic", sharing pictures of the national team's players in the new green kit on Facebook.
The federation said in a statement that this is the first major change in the Syrian sport, which is free from nepotism, favoritism, and corruption.
Since the establishment of the Syrian Football Association in 1936, the Syrian football team has participated in many international tournaments, including the Asian Cup and FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Although political instability and lack of resources have been major challenges for the team, Syrian football achieved several regional successes in the 1980s and 1990s.
Football is a popular sport in Syria, which is not only a source of entertainment but also has the power to unite the country's various socio-political classes on one platform.
