13-year-old Vaibhu Suryavanshi is a left-arm batsman. He has previously played for the state at the national level. He has also been a part of India's under-19 cricket team.
Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals started bidding for him at INR 3 million. But Rajasthan Royals, with whom he had trained earlier, picked up the bid for Suryavanshi.
Cricket in India has traditionally been dominated by cricketers from urban areas such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore. But since the advent of the IPL, Indian cricket talent has started emerging from remote areas and small towns.
Suryavanshi is in Dubai to play for India in the Under-19 Asia Cup. He made his debut for the Bihar team against Mumbai at 12.
He performed well in his five Ranji matches, but the highlight of his career was his 58-ball century against Australia in the Under-19s. This match was played five weeks ago which was not an official test match. He is the youngest player to score a century in youth cricket so far.
Apart from this, he also scored an unbeaten 332 runs in Bihar under-19.
Suryavanshi's talent as a young cricketer while training Rajasthan Royals impressed the coaching staff.
Speaking to ESPNcricinfo after the auction, Team CEO Jack Lush McCram said Suryavanshi is very capable and will definitely need to be given the confidence to perform at the level of the IPL. will
He further said that 'Sooryavanshi has more work to improve but he still has a lot of talent and is very happy to be included in the franchise.'
Although under Indian law employment of a child under the age of 14 falls under the category of child labor, experts say that for the playground There is no such law as sports involve boys below 14 years of age in national and international level events.
But Suryavanshi may have to wait a little longer to play in an ICC-organised international match as the governing body there has set an age limit of 15 years.
