England cricket team's all-rounder Moeen Ali has announced his retirement from international cricket.
He said now was the time for new players to get a chance, and I had already been told this. I have played a lot of cricket for England, so I felt it was the right time to retire from international cricket.
Moeen Ali, who debuted in international cricket in 2014, played 68 Tests, 138 ODIs, and 92 T20 Internationals as an all-rounder. He last represented England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024. He scored 6678 runs in all formats including 8 centuries, 28 fifties for England, and also took 366 wickets.
Moeen Ali said, "I am proud to represent England. When you play for England for the first time, you don't know how many matches you will play."
"Now during the early years I only played Test cricket but then when Eoin Morgan took over the white ball captaincy, that time was great but Test cricket is much better," he said.
"I can still represent England but I won't, I have to be realistic and accept that I'm not much better and the team has to move on," he said.
Moeen Ali said, "People often forget the role you played, apparently 20 or 30 runs may be less but those 20, 30 runs have changed matches until I felt people wanted to see me play." Yes, I played and was happy.
It should be noted that Moeen Ali will continue to play franchise cricket and he expressed hope that he will take up coaching duties in the future. He said he wants to play franchise cricket a little bit but mainly I want to coach and be a good coach.
